According to a report from the Valais Cantonal Police, two climbers were ascending the north face of Lyskamm around 9:00 a.m. when they were caught in a rockfall. They were struck by falling rocks, and one of them sustained fatal injuries.

His climbing partner immediately called for emergency services. An Air Zermatt helicopter, dispatched by the Valais Cantonal Rescue Organization, flew to the scene of the accident; upon arrival, the crew could only confirm the climber’s death.
