Starting tomorrow, Prague will become the center of the world of sport climbing. A five-day event in the World Climbing Series - formerly the World Cup - will kick off on Štvanice Island. In addition to the traditional bouldering competition, this year’s event will also feature lead climbing competitions. Many of the biggest stars in competitive climbing today will head to the Czech capital, and the country’s top climber, Adam Ondra, is also expected to compete in the lead climbing event.

The competition schedule kicks off on Wednesday with the men’s and women’s bouldering qualifiers. On Thursday, the lead climbing qualifiers will take place. The weekend will then feature the main events - on Friday and Saturday, the bouldering medals will be decided, and on Sunday, the competition will conclude with lead climbing.

The Czech team for lead climbing includes Adam Ondra, Martin Stráník, Jan Štípek, Filip Zlámal, and Šimon Potůček. The women’s team features Mariana Janošová, Michaela Smetanová, Ema Galeová, Arina Jurčenko, and Tereza Širůčková.

In bouldering, Timotej Čermák, Adam Endrle, Lukáš Mokroluský, Lukáš Trávníček, Lysander Naimji, and Darius Naimji will represent the Czech Republic. In the women’s category, Ema Galeová, Natálie Paarová, Adéla Koňaříková, Veronika Šmakalová, Arina Jurčenko, and Viktorie Konečná will compete.

The world’s top climbers will also be at the start. Among the biggest favorites are Japan’s Sorato Anraku, France’s Mejdi Schalck and Oriane Bertone, Britain’s Toby Roberts, and Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret.

The bouldering wall is located right in Štvanice Park, while lead climbing has moved to the tennis stadium grounds. In addition to the competitions, the organizers have prepared a supporting program for the public - making Štvanice one of the liveliest sports venues in Prague all weekend long.

Czech Television plans to broadcast the competitions. Tickets can be purchased online; links to the ticket sites can be found on the competition website: www.worldclimbingseries.cz. Admission on Wednesday is free for everyone.
