Czech climbers Marek Holeček and Tomáš Petreček have completed their acclimatization on Nanga Parbat
Czech climbers Marek Holeček and Tomáš Petreček have completed their second acclimatization phase ahead of their planned attempt at the first ascent of a new route up the Rupal Face of the 8,000-meter Nanga Parbat (8,125 m). They reported on social media that during their five-day ascent, they reached an altitude of approximately 6,400 meters.
Holeček described the grueling acclimatization period, during which the pair spent several days traversing exposed terrain while bivouacking at high altitudes. The ascent was complicated by a storm and deteriorating weather conditions, which led the climbers to decide to descend quickly. According to him, the return to base camp took approximately 18 hours and led through terrain damaged by avalanches and landslides.
The climbers stated that they consider their acclimatization complete and are now preparing for their actual attempt to climb a new route on the Rupal Face. They are returning to the project after eight years, during which time extremely strong winds stopped them approximately 300 meters below the summit.
