Slovak Dodo Kopold toped Broad Peak (8047m) on Thursday. So far during his expedition, Baltoro Express, he has climbed Gasherbrum II (9.6.2008, 8035m), Gasherbrum I (15.6.2008, 8068m) and Broad Peak (26.6.2008, 8047m).
His climbing partner Vlado Plulik climbed Gasherbrum I (15.6.2008, 8068m). They plan to climb K2 (8611m) more.
Because the weather should be good not for long time, they decided to go first to Broad Peak and then to K2. Both set out to climb via the normal route under Broad Peak and in the afternoon they were about 300 m below the summit. They rested a bit and returned to 7200 m, where they had their stuff. They overnighted there and following day continued to the summit. Conditions were bad. Vlado went via normal route and probably did not reached the top. Dodo climbed via a new variant of the peak wall and about 21.00 he reached the summit. He said it was the hardest climbing he had ever performed in Himalayas. On the route back he bivied at 8000m. without tent, sleeping bag or food. On Friday night he returned to base camp. Vlado is probably in Camp one with the Russians, on the way they missed one another. They could meet today. Weather is also bad.
