Czech climber swept away by avalanche in Tatras, died at scene
A Czech climber was swept away by an avalanche yesterday in the Gerlachovský štít massif in the High Tatras and died at the scene. This was reported by the general media and the Slovak Mountain Rescue Service. According to the latter, the avalanche in the direction of Gerlachovský kotol swept away a 32-year-old climber of Czech nationality, who had climbed Krčmárový žlab with his climbing partner.
"The Devil's Avalanche Bridge, without a rope, probably stepped through the summit ridge a short distance from the saddle, fell on the other side than he climbed, crashed into the rocks in the gully and was dead, even though the snow did not completely bury him," wrote Kuba Turek about the accident in a discussion here on Lezec.
