Peter Hámor ended expedition to Api (7,132 m) without summit
Slovak mountaineer Peter Hámor has ended this year's Himalayan expedition to the 7,000-meter peak of Api (7,132 m) in western Nepal without reaching the summit. He announced his return from the expedition on Facebook.
He said that despite the failure, he is taking away from the expedition a wealth of memories, experiences, and inspiration for future expeditions to the little-known mountains of western Nepal. He also posted a photo after returning to Kathmandu.
Api, the highest peak of the Gurans Himal range in the Darchula region, is one of Nepal’s most remote seven-thousanders and has a modest mountaineering history. According to Peter’s data, only 21 people have successfully climbed it as part of seven expeditions since the first ascent by a Japanese expedition in 1960. The secondary peak, Api West (7,076 m), remains unclimbed to this day.
Peter Hámor set out for Api in early April with only his wife and a cooking team after his climbing partner, Tomáš Petrík, fell ill shortly before the expedition.
