Two top Czech mountaineers granted by the Fair Play prize
The Chairman of the Czech Mountaineering Union Zdenek Hruby together with his mountaineering partner Radek Jaros were granted today the main Prize of Fair Play from the Czech Club of Fair Play.
The main prize was for the brave fair action in which they saved the lives of several mountaineers from various expeditions in Dhaulagiri last spring.
The Fair Play granting ceremony was presented by the main stream Czech media including Czech television in front of the other Fair Play prizes for entire live fair play attitudes which was granted to former Czechoslovak hockey player Jaroslav Pouzar who was successful also in American Stanley Cup.
"During the ascent to Dhaulagiri in Himalayas they saved two Polish mountaineers who suffered by high altitude disease. The Czechs risked their lives and decreased their chances to reach the summit. There were 20 other mountaineers who could help to the Poles, but nobody more helped. Zdenek Hruby and Radek Jaros then after successful reaching of the summit during the descent helped also to two fully exhausted Spanish mountaineers. Their brave behavior is noticeable also in contrast of ignorance which has been recently more common in Himalaya climbing," Czech Fair Play club explained.
There were present also honor guests Carlos Alberto de C. Barros Goncalves, president of European Fair Play Movement, and Katarína Ráczová, the member EFPM executive in the Prague ceremonial today.
